Rapid Inventory Assessment of Biomedical Equipment in public hospitals in the Eastern, Central, and Western Regions of Nepal (Dec 2013-Mar 2014)
MEH Consultants, in partnership with EPOS Health Management GmBH, conducted a rapid inventory assessment of biomedical equipment in public health institutions (selected PHCCs, all district hospitals, all zonal hospitals, all regional and sub-regional hospitals, regional medical stores, and district public health offices) in the Eastern, Central, and Western development regions of Nepal. The assignment was funded by Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW). Our teams, consisting of a team leader/manager, and a bio medical engineering technician (BMET), performed an initial technical assessment of biomedical equipment (ranging from suction machines to ECGs and beyond), and collected various technical parameters of the equipment. The teams used Android powered tablets to collect the data, which were transmitted, via the internet, to cloud based servers. A real time data monitoring application was created to track the progress of the teams, and have up-to-date data for analysis, while the teams were still in the field.
